Disconnected in an increasingly connected world

Yeah it's been a while,(Quoting staind!!) but i hope to update a lot more often now...anyways....
Do you ever get the feeling that your in touch with people but never really close...i refer to the paradox of technology reducing and creating distances at the same time.
Email and Sms are great ways to keep in touch but lately i get the feeling that i know less about people than when sms wasn't around.I'm in touch with more people than ever before yet sometimes i get the feeling that it's so superfical that that the real essence of communication is lost. You cant catch up with a person with 3 lines in an sms..it doesn't work..people seem to forget that you are not the same person that you were a week ago..So the new you has grown and learnt so much in say 3 months that many parts of your personality(i.e. the deepest levels) have undergone change changing your fundamental outlook..so an sms or an email(Unless it's really long) really doesn't allow you to 'catch up' to the person to really 'know' them.I feel this is why reunions are so popular... people actually stop and take a break from their normal routine to do one thing:- catch up.... Leaving a reunion gives you a distinct feeling of having a good sense of how friends have changed and grown...i know you cant have one all the time but somehow the belief of smsing means staying in touch has a underlying problem...like using a band-aid to heal a fracture...
Btw this isn't a rant against sms..hell no..it's cheap and great when your bored..but when i hear that people propose by Sms it's sort of bugs me...No balls,no glory i feel...but that's a different rant....

    I agree.
Dont u just hate it when people send one message a week saying 'howre u'?
Whats the point? do they really expect an answer in 150 characters?

Im being hypocritical here. For example, the only time i ask u howre u is to check whether ur still alive in CS!!
    But its time for change!

How about me coming over and playing GTA?!

    kiddin.
    How bout schwerma tmrw?

    Its not possible.
I just realised that for the sake of the superficial society that we live it, it is necessary that u message people once a month saying 'Hows it hanging?'
Its gotta be done. No man is an island. u have to keep the links alive.
The idea behind the one line is that the person is thinking of you.
and that's enough for the facades that we keep.
How many of us are looking for true friendships anyways?
All we're looking for are 'friends' whom we'll spend time with till our work is done. and then we move on.

looking for just friends seems to be the problem....ur only around 50,00 'friends' but u dont really know them...it's not good cos you're spendin so much time and ur not gonna have any lasting relationships..

i agree - sms is supposed to be (according to me) for msgs like - "m leaving home now, see you at... in ....mins" etc etc...
but yea - its utilisation has been over exploited - and hence the side effects....
its jus a tool/utility - how we use it is entirely upto us...aint it?
    :)
